Welcome to Books in Homes Australia!

Elliot School, Northern Territory

The Books in Homes Australia Programme aim is to empower disadvantaged children through their choice of new books, promoting a love of reading and much improved literacy skills.

In Australia, there are a substantial number of children that start their formal education having never seen a book. It is well recognised that children who are given the chance to develop confidence in their reading, will benefit more from their schooling and have a wider scope of opportunities available to them in the future, to live a productive and rewarding life.

Every participating child chooses nine new quality books per year to take home and build their own home libraries. Each book is labelled “This Book Belongs To....” which emphasises ownership.

The Books in Homes Programme encourages a love of books.

It gives disadvantaged and remote communities an educational resource to promote the joy that comes from reading. The magic of a good story lasts a lifetime.

The Books in Homes Programme is implemented with passion and enthusiasm, providing educational resources which enable children to break away from the poverty cycle in which they were born and help them realise their full potential!!!

Help us give them the tools to grow and learn that reading is fun.

Your generous donation will make a positive difference by inspiring young disadvantaged children to improve their literacy skills. One in five children will struggle with the reading development!

We work with schools and community that have anywhere from 4 to 900 children that need our help!
The Books in Homes Australia Programme addresses the generational poverty cycle caused by illiteracy.
