Frequently Asked Questions of the Books in Homes Australia Programme:

What criteria do you use for assessing a disadvantaged community?

Our assessment may include a combination of the following:

& Primary-aged children living in Australia;

& Living in low socio-economic circumstances;

& Living in remote and isolated areas of Australia;

& Below average reading ability

How does the Programme work?

& Books in Homes Australia raise funds

& New schools are contacted and inducted in Programme.

& A preview pack of 48 titles, book catalogues for each student and book labels are sent to every participating school in terms 1, 2 & 4.

& The students choose and order their books from the preview pack.

& The children’s book orders are sent to Books in Homes Australia

& Books in Homes Australia orders the new books from Scholastic Australia

& Once the books are sourced, they’re packed and delivered back to the school with book bags.

& The school unpacks the books, writes the child’s name on the book labels provided and sticks the label on the inside of the front cover of the child’s selected book

& Book giving ceremonies are conducted.  Where possible, Books in Homes Australia organises role models to attend to help encourage the children to read.
