Books in Homes has been successful in growing communities of happy readers.

              • Since 2001, Books in Homes has delivered in excess of 1,300,000 books of choice to 290  communities and schools in NSW, VIC, SA, WA, NT, QLD and TAS.
              • In the 2010 survey 100% of respondents agreed that the Programme was a good example of a “whole school literacy engagement” Programme; that they would recommend to other schools.
              • In 2006, a third party evaluation commissioned by the Federal Department of Education, Science and Training and conducted by Atelier Learning Solutions Pty Ltd  in the 50 schools participating in the Books in Homes Programme in the Murdi Paaki Region of remote western NSW stated:

“The literacy levels in this isolated region are among the lowest in the country, especially in the more remote schools and among Indigenous groups. With low family literacy levels over generations, and a high degree of relative poverty, priority is not given to books in homes.…This is a recipe for a vicious cycle of low literacy outcomes.   The Books in Homes Programme ...addresses the need to break the cycle.”
